Muriel Vancauwen was born in Paris, France. She discovered her trade at the young age of 15. By age 22, she graduated from school and decided to become her own boss. She quickly seized the opportunity and drifted towards new channels, much different from her own expectations. As luck would have it, a new world opened up to her after a chance encounter with globally acclaimed French hairstylist, Jean Louis David. He recognized her talent for great creativity and gave her the chance to work in photography studios.
She was then directly propelled into the fashion industry, working alongside with the industries top models, designers, fashion magazines, celebrities and photographers, including the legendary Patrick Demarchelier, who commissioned Muriel on hair and make-up for French Vogue. Muriel soon discovered another family and she immediately embraced this new, fascinating world and its approach to hairdressing.
With more than 20 years of career experience under her belt, Muriel has had the fantastic opportunity to travel all over the world and to some of the most modern cities: New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Milan, London, Hong Kong and Moscow. She has worked from the hottest desert regions in Africa, in the mountains of Nepal, throughout the East Indies, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, the Seychelles, Argentina, Brazil , Cambodia, Bali…the list continues.
Muriel Vancauwen has also spent more than 3 years living and exercising her talent in Sydney, Australia. There, she became captivated by the Asian Industry, as these newly, opened doors allowed her to once again explore new territory and escape to new horizons. The experience was unimaginable for Muriel. Her creativity took on new dimensions, more than she could ever have dreamed for herself.
Muriel Vancauwen is captivated by all spectrums of art: painting, sculpture, color, shape, volume, history, comics… anything related to “image. “
For Muriel, a successful photo is the synergy of talents between the team of photographers, makeup artists, hairdressers, designers, stylists, super models, celebrities … each uniting together his/her culture of esthetics to capture that one unique moment. She is quenching her thirst for change and creativity by adapting her style to those she is encountering along the road.
When asked, “What inspires you the most…” she responds: “Street life, people, travel, different cultures, religions, the ability to reinvent beauty, the ability to be innovative, the joy of recreating and surpassing one’s boundaries and abilities, my encounters in the world…our solar system…anything for the beauty of art.”
In May of 2010, Muriel’s hairstyles were exhibited in a Seibu Gallery in Hong Kong, China.
