Nicknamed « the hair magician » for his boundless imagination, Paris-based Ryoji Imaizumi is one of fashion’s most distinctive hair artists. Moving effortlessly between minimalist elegance and surreal architectural hair design, his work transforms hair into an expressive medium of high art. Renowned for his ability to craft extravagant, one-of-a-kind headpieces—often incorporating unexpected, everyday objects—his career spans both session styling and high-level Creative Direction, notably serving as Creative Director for Shu Uemura Art of Hair.
Imaizumi began his career in the late 90s in New York as an assistant at Bumble and Bumble, later moving to Paris to assist renowned French hairstylist Laurent Philippon before stepping into the spotlight as an independent artist. After spending significant time working in Tokyo, he returned to make Paris his primary base several years ago.
Today, his meticulous craftsmanship and edgy, contemporary aesthetic make him highly sought after for high-fashion editorials, major global campaigns, and runway shows. Surnommé « le magicien du cheveu » pour son imagination sans limites, Ryoji Imaizumi, basé à Paris, est l’un des hair artists les plus singuliers de l’univers de la mode. Naviguant avec aisance entre élégance minimaliste et créations capillaires architecturales et surréalistes, il transforme le cheveu en un véritable médium d’art. Renommé pour sa capacité à créer des coiffures extravagantes et uniques — intégrant fréquemment des objets du quotidien pour sublimer l’ordinaire —, son parcours allie le travail en studio à la Direction Artistique de haut niveau, ayant notamment occupé le poste de Directeur Artistique pour Shu Uemura Art of Hair.
Ryoji commence sa carrière à la fin des années 90 à New York comme assistant chez Bumble and Bumble, avant de s’installer à Paris pour assister le célèbre coiffeur français Laurent Philippon, puis de s’imposer comme artiste indépendant.
